Q&A All about Nerd as seen through the Spyfi verse with Pandabear.
Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
Short, around 5' 8" and mid build. Curently not carrying any extra weight but could have a tendency to get a belly when he lets his love of sugary things take over.
2. How old is he?

3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch?
Slouchy from spending too many hours sat at a computer.
4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
Relatively healthy despite poor diet and aversion to sunshine.
5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
Bouncy when he walks, but is generally very laid back and careful.
6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror?
He's good looking in a scruffy surfer stoner dude way. Does not percieve himself as attractive.Is quite frakly amazed anyone ever looks at him twice in that way.
7. Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
Clear skin but bordering on pasty complexion from not getting enough time in daylight. If he did spend time outside he would tan nicely and his hair lightens.

Dirty blonde to brown. Currently brown. Usually looks like it needs a good wash and a hair cut.
9. What color are his eyes?
Grey
10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
Has a scruffy beard. Without the beard he looks a lot younger. A lot.
He used to wear glasses but got his eyes laser fixed in his early twenties.
11. What are his chief tension centers?
Shoulders carry a lot of tension, from hunching over a computer.
12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit?
He is not a snappy dresser. He favours scruffy jeans tee shirt, an open shirt on the top, zip up the front hoodies. Black, grey or dark utilitarian. A lot of his T shirts have nerdy pictures on the front.
13. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them?
His clothes are designed to be slouchy. He often looks like he slept in them.
14. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences?
No difference, although when he does need to scrub up he looks good. And favours blue.

Frequenty commando but he does own and wear a lot of comedy boxers.
Speech

His voice is dry like his sense of humour, and has a tendency towards scratchy growely and husky, especially when he's aroused. Can get high pitched when he's being silly or taking the piss. Or really really scared.
2. How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate?
He usually talks easily and relatively fast. His retorts are generally dripping with sarcasm, dry and snarky. His conversation peppered with double entendre's, nerd speak, or references to popular TV shows and movies.
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
If sarcasm is a disctinctive quirk, then yes.
4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency?

He can switch to Nerdspeak at the drop of a hat.

He thinks before he speaks. He thinks quickly. Sometimes he says it anyway. That usually gets him into trouble.

Articulate rather than eloquent.
Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart?
Birkhoff has a brain the size of a planet. Jupiter to be exact. His head is accordingly large.

On his feet. Or more precicely his ass as he will most likely be sitting down at the time.
3. Describe the character's thougt process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
Logic all the way baby.

At 15 he dropped out of school, faked his own death went to college. Largely self taught. Intuitive.
5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about?
Bits, Bytes and Bots. Anything with a technical leaning. He can hack into the Pentagon, re-task sattelites and get the vending machine on the ISS to make him a double shot espresso.
6. Is he an introvert or an extrovert?
For a geek he can be surprisignly extrovert.
7. Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?
Cheerful is his go to temperament. Despite the seriousness of the situation he's usually the one to come up with a quip or a joke. Like a comedy sidekick. He can appear laid back too, although under the surface his brain is always ticking over.
8. How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
He adapts. He keeps his head down. It's how he's managed to stay alive this long.

Act. After thinking it through. Unless it's to do with Pandora, in which case he has a tendencey to react without thinking. Like punching R in the face - h really should have thought that one through first.

Flight. He prefers to leave the fisticuffs to Nikita, Sam, Alex and Mikey.

There's been a couple of biggies. There was a turning point when he found out his father had enrolled him in military school in order to 'set him straight', that's when he literally reinvented himself and became Seymour Birkhoff. And another when he was arrested in college for hacking the Pentagon. Percy came to recruit him to Division. Joining Division wasn't exactly optional.
14. What does he fear?
Losing what he prizes the most: his ability to think.
15. What are his hopes or aspirations?
That all the baddies will take a chill pill or just die already.
16. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him?
It used to be that he didn't want anyone to find out about his original identity as Lionel Peller. That he faked his own death. Or that he is the notorious cyber criminal Shadow Walker. Although his closest friends now know about that. He's still pretty cagey on the subject though.
Relationships

Strained. To say the least. Although they are at least all talking again now. Now that Birkhoff saved his fathers life and they know he isn't actually dead.
2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?
An older Sister Lily. They don't talk much either.
3. Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand?
Nope.
4. Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them?
As far as he is concerned his 'family' consists of Nikita, Alex and Mikey. They all worked together at Division, and continue to work togeher now.
5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?
Mikey. They were both at Division together.
6. Does he have other close friends?
He's friends with Sam, who is Alex's boyfriend and also an ex Division colleague. Althought hey didn't used to get along all that much.
7. Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people?
Not easily. He's easy going in nature but it takes a special person for him to open up to and trust properly.
8. Which does he consider more important: family or friends?
Freinds

Until very recently he would say he was single. Never married. One long term close relationship with Sonya which went south a few years ago.
Now he is in a relationship with Pandora. And has never been happier.

No. Monogamy works for him.

Gold bikini Princess Leia.

Amanda and Percy are both right up there. Percy is no longer an issue but Amanda is still out there breathing somewhere. Last he checked it was in an ultra high security facility. He checks that more frequently than you'd think.

A solid Zero and he is comfortable with that. Dicks just don't do it for him. Not even for cusiosity sakes.

If he never had it again he'd be disappointed but could deal with it.
He believes sexuality creates intimacy for a couple and becomes the glue of the relationship. Good sex is a barometer of a good relationship. For Birkhoff sex isn't just a physical release or an expression of love and affection. It’s a way to work things out and ground himself, to process traumas, big and small, together.

He has been exposed to a lot of death. Let's say that being forced to take part in government sanctioned murder was not a highlight of his career. He got used to it but he never got to like it. Given the choice he would prefer to go the 'let them live' route. Unless it's a choice of him and them. In which case it's pass the Glock and duck, cos he's gonna shoot their fucking heads off.
4. How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
Curiosity. How people think is fascinating. In amongst all the cray cray he has seen threads of genius, unfortunately that has been largely drowned out by waves of terrifying batshit nuts.

On the whole he is rational and open minded.

He is a self made man with more money than he could feasibly get through in a lifetime - although Nikita could probably make short work of it if she got on one of her 'missions'. None of what he owns would be considered strictly legal however. Although he'd argue that apporpriating funds from the worst criminals is fair game.
2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him?
Genius, Nerd.

He owns a building in down town San Francisco. The top floor is his 'office' the next floor is his living quarters. The rest of the building is rented out to startups and smb's as cover. He calls it The Castle and 'shares' it with KITT his non physical AI. Non physical meaning that KITT does not have a physical presence. He does have a nice voice though.
4. Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on?
Cars.

He's a hacker. One of the best in the world. And he loves it. His job defines him. If he couldn't use his skills to help and support Nikki and the rest of his spy buddies then he'd go cray cray, buy a fluffy white cat and become the worlds next best super villain.

Taking apart and rebuilding tech. Hacking into places he has no right being. Fucking Pandora.

His blood is about 50% sugar, he's a diabetic coma waiting to happen. Left to his own devices it's convenience food, caffeine and energy drinks. But when presented with good home cooking he is IN!
